Set in the rolling hills of Mono, Ontario, this home was designed as a serene retreat for a young family seeking refuge from city life. Purchased during the early pandemic, the 25-acre site was a blank canvas, requiring careful consideration of utilities, site access, and planning approvals. Studio Maggs was entrusted with both architectural and interior design services, creating a home that emphasizes light, expansive views, and a deep connection to nature. Framing key vistas and incorporating large custom lift-and-slide doors from Greece allows for a seamless connection between the interior and the surrounding forested landscape. The design also includes a spacious amphitheater, squash court, and luxurious spa-like bathrooms, alongside a grand kitchen and feature stair.

The interiors reflect the clients’ love for mid-century modern and seventies design, with custom millwork, restored vintage furniture, and bespoke furnishings. Key design elements such as a large tiled fireplace, custom steel planter and bench divider, and tall ceilings enhance the home’s character and openness. A walk-out amphitheater from the basement connects to a future pool area, while expansive windows throughout frame the stunning northern views. With meticulous attention to detail, this residence offers a perfect balance of relaxation, family living, and entertainment, providing both a personal sanctuary and a space for guests to enjoy.
